Tutorial 057: Rainbow Wrap Ring
Level: Very "Creatively" advanced
This style of wire wrapping is sometimes referred to Rainbow wrap for its popularity among the Rainbow Gathering crowd. According to Wikipedia,
the Rainbow Gatherings are "temporary intentional communities, typically held in outdoor settings, and espousing and practicing ideals of peace, love, harmony, freedom and community, as a consciously expressed
alternative to mainstream popular culture, consumerism, capitalism and mass media."
The most recognizable technique of the Rainbow wraps are woven ribbons, made with two or three thick wires woven with thin wire in a modified figure 8.
Materials for the final ring:
1 cab or flat stone measuring approximately 3/4" wide
Approximately 16 to 20 feet 28ga round soft wire
3 feet 18ga round wire (soft or half-hard)
Note:
Because of the random and organic nature of this type of wrap, no two rings are ever alike. Therefore this tutorial has been divided into three parts: the first two parts can be followed and copied identically.
The last and finally section is what gives the "artistry" to the ring and is explained as a series of RULES instead of step by step instructions. Instead of trying to follow the steps
exactly, let your imagination (and the wires) guide you!
