Tutorial 039:
Mosaic Pendant

Level: Intermediate

You never know what to do with those left-over beads – you know, the orphan beads which usually get gathered in a box, waiting for that inspired day we'll know what to do with "bead soup". This tutorial shows how to use those leftover beads to make this very fashionable and young design. The effect is similar to a mosaic, or a collage of beads.

Due to the random-quality of this design, the results never come out quite identical.

Materials:

  • 3.5 feet of 26 ga soft wire
  • 5 1/3 inches (13cm) of 16 ga wire - soft or half-hard (optional: silver frame in teardrop or other shape)
  • 4 inches 24 ga wire (soft or half hard)
  • 1 ½ feet of 28 or 26 ga wire (scraps of 4 inches are ok)
  • 25 to 25 beads of varying sizes and shapes, between 3 and 8mm – glass, crystals or stone
  • 10 to 15 silver beads of varying sizes, between 2 and 4mm
  • 9 3mm garnets for bail
  •

These instructions do not cover the necklace portion of the design, which is simple stringing.

Note: you will need a metallic hammer and metallic block.

    Price: US$ 5.00

    Variation: Coiled frame

To add more interest to the pendant, coil the frame before working the mosaic inside. Use a large 20mm jumpring and add a wrapped loop as bail. enioken_wk39
